炼丹，道教词语。为炼制外丹与内丹的统称。外丹术源于黄老道，是在丹炉中烧炼矿物以制造“仙丹”。其后将人体拟作炉鼎，用以习炼精气神，称为内丹术。外丹术指道家通过各种秘法烧炼丹药，用来服食，或直接服食某些芝草，以点化自身阴质，使之化为阳气。陈师道注：“道家以烹炼金石为外丹；龙虎胎息，吐故纳新为内丹。”
