即甲基溴，常用于植物保护作为杀虫剂、杀菌剂、土壤熏蒸剂和谷物熏蒸剂。也用作木材防腐剂、低沸点溶剂、有机合成原料和致冷剂等。溴甲烷是一种消耗臭氧层的物质，根据《蒙特利尔议定书哥本哈根修正案》，发达国家于2005年淘汰，发展中国家也将于2015 年淘汰。由于溴甲烷作为熏蒸剂的卓越作用，溴甲烷仍然受到使用者的欢迎。我国正积极推进限期淘汰溴甲烷的进程。 2017年10月27日，世界卫生组织国际癌症研究机构公布的致癌物清单初步整理参考，溴甲烷在3类致癌物清单中。
