清管球是采用材料为耐腐蚀的氯丁橡胶制成的。分空心球和实心球两种，DN>100mm的清管球为空心球，管径小于100mm时可用实心球。空心球壁厚为输气管内径的十分之一，空心球上装有气嘴，空心球内充水使用。在冬季，球内应充注防冻剂的水溶液（如甘醇），以防止冻结。清管球在管道内运行时要求具有一定的密封性，因此要求球外径大于输气管内径。
