统率僧尼之官名，职位次于僧正、僧统。北魏孝明帝首任慧光为僧都，后人邺转任国统（一国之僧统），又陈后主至德元年（583），慧恒为京邑大僧都，后转任大僧正。于隋代仿魏齐之制，以统为正，都为副。日本亦模仿我国之制，于推古天皇三十二年（624），敕令鞍部德积担任僧都之职为始例。其后，有大、少、权大、权少之别，并配享正五位之官。大宋僧史略卷中、续高僧传卷九（参阅‘僧官’5731）也指阴阳师中的，音声音结印术
