深海平原（abyssal plain）坡度小于1∶1000的深海底部。大洋盆地的重要组成单元。常位于大陆隆和深海丘陵之间，水深3000～6000米，大型的可延伸几百至几千千米。覆盖着较厚的沉积层，沉积物都是浊流自大陆边缘搬运来的。它自大陆隆外缘向洋内伸展，表面可以被深海谷所切割，且沿着向大洋中脊的方向，沉积层逐渐减薄直至过渡到深海丘陵。
和陆地上的河流非常相似，它从海底大陆架流向深海平原。
