《淡水渔业》杂志1971年由长江水产研究所创办，初期为内部交流资料。1974年，《淡水渔业》取得CN代号，初定为月刊，内容以专业技术为主，兼容科普，限国内正式发行。从1979年第3期开始，改由中国水产学会主办，长江水产研究所为出版单位，负责编辑出版工作。
