涓流充电是用来弥补电池在充满电后由于自放电而造成的容量损失。一般采用脉冲电流充电来实现上述目的。为补偿自放电，使蓄电池保持在近似完全充电状态的连续小电流充电。又称维护充电。电信装置、信号系统等的直流电源系统的蓄电池，在完全充电后多处于涓流充电状态，以备放电时使用。
