海塔风景区位于龙洞河源头，离米易县城36公里，是个海拔1900米、面积约30平方公里的山间盆地。海塔之名由“海”与“塔”组成。海塔人工湖水域面积60万平方米，汇水面积9平方公里，四周青山环绕，形如弯月，得名月儿海。海塔地势形如船体，相传前人为拴住这条船，不使 它随水飘去 ，便在山上修了一座六角白塔作栓船之桩。海与塔交相辉映，“海塔”因此得名。
