浅海沉积是水深大致为20～200米范围内的海底沉积，主要分布在大陆架区，也称陆架沉积。浅海沉积物主要来自大陆，但在一些低纬度海区和外陆架，也可见到自生的碳酸盐沉积和生物沉积。浅海指正常浪基面（附近）以下至水深200m的较平坦的广阔浅水海域（陆棚范围），平均坡度一般只有几分，不超过4度。浅海的水动力包括波浪、洋流（离岸流）、潮汐流及密度流（风暴碎屑流）等。
