法通(?—512)本姓褚氏，南齐末阳翟(今禹州)人。十二岁出家，遍览三藏(佛道经典的总集)，对《大品》、《法华》等佛经研究尤为精密。年未三十便为讲匠(专讲佛家的经律)，学徒千里云集。前往京师(今南京)，初定居庄严寺，后停栖定林上寺，平时深居简出，勤习经典，就连当时的显贵文宣王、文献王也都亲自顶礼受教(佛教徒的最高敬礼，跪地以头顶尊者的足)。三十余年间，弟子达七千余人。梁天监十一年(512)卒。
