河流相沉积常与某些大型油气藏有关,也常产有铀、金、金刚石、水晶、独居石、刚玉、钨、锡,铂等矿产,因此,近年来对河流相沉积的研究非常深入,在认识上有很大的发展,主要是通过对现代河流沉积物的研究和室内水槽模拟试验,对河流作用的机理和所形成的沉积物的结构、构造、粒度、组分等有深人的了解。指由陆上河流或其它迳流作用沉积的一套沉积物或沉积岩形成的沉积相。
