沉积速率(deposition rate)是指沉积物对可容空间充填的速度。沉积速率与可容空间增长速率之间的相对关系控制着沉积水体深度和准层序组的叠置方式,可容空间增长速率小于沉积物沉积速率时,沉积物向盆进积,沉积水体深度变浅;可容空间增长速率大于沉积物沉积速率时,沉积物向陆退积,沉积水体深度变大;可容空间增长速率与沉积物沉积速率相当时,沉积物向上加积,沉积水体深度也基本保持稳定。
