水禽指的是脊索动物门，鸟纲，突胸总目的一类。包括鸭、鹅、鸿雁、灰雁等以水面为生活环境的禽类动物（其中，迁徙水鸟包括天鹅、雁鸭类和三种鹤：丹顶鹤、白枕鹤、蓑羽鹤）。水禽类的尾脂腺特别发达，此类候鸟大都在有水的地方，如湿地、岸边等活动，另外鸭群之水禽类善于在池塘中戏水。水禽类冬季的绒羽十分丰厚。它们主要在水中寻食，部分种类有迁徙的习性。
