民用建筑是指非生产性的居住建筑和公共建筑，是由若干个大小不等的室内空间组合而成的；而其空间的形成，则又需要各种各样实体来组合，而这些实体称为建筑构配件。一般民用建筑由基础、墙或柱、楼底层、楼梯、屋顶、门窗等构配件组成，如住宅、写字楼、幼儿园、学校、食堂、影剧院、医院、旅馆、展览馆、商店和体育场馆等。
