毛边是指在针刻（DRYPOINT）和雕版（ENGRAVING）中，由针或刻刀在金属板表面刻线形成的粗糙的边。在直接刻线中，毛边（有时也这样称呼为隆脊）或许被保留下来以创造表明技术特征的柔和、模糊的线。不过在凹版雕刻中，为得到干净明快的线条，所有的毛边都要用刮刀（SCRAPER）刮去。
