死烧又称硬烧。是耐火原料在足够高的温度下煅烧，并达到充分烧结的一种工艺过程。常用于烧制耐火材料的熟料(特别是碱性熟料)。当使用高温体积稳定性低的某些天然矿物、碱性耐火原料或其他合成材料作为耐火原料时，必须先经死烧制成耐火熟料。2001年全球耐火级死烧镁砂(DI )的总量约为640万t。其中，天然耐火级死烧镁砂的产量为560万t，占总量的84．496；合成镁砂的产量约为80万t，占总量的15．6%。
