学名Olea europaea ssp.africana，主要分布在地中海沿岸地区，如以色列－巴勒斯坦地区、希腊、意大利南部、法国南部、西班牙南部地区以及北非部分地区，如突尼斯、摩洛哥。另外，在非洲其他地区和亚洲（如中国南方）也有橄榄木分布，但是其种类不同。
原因之一是，在平均水平线下，德国这架喷气发动机所带来的增长被地中海橄榄木和爱尔兰的亚麻布构成的摇摇晃晃的双翼飞机消磨殆尽。
