椭圆的偏振光是指光的电场方向或光矢量末端在垂直于传播方向的平面上描绘出的轨迹。当两个相互垂直的振动同时作用于一点时,若它们的频率相同并且有固定的位相差,则该点的合成振动的轨迹一般呈椭圆形。
