根系是一株植物全部根总称。根系有两类，直根系和须根系之分。直根系（taproot system）主根发达、明显，极易与侧根相区别，由这种主根及其各级侧根组成的根系，称为直根系。 大多数的裸子植物和双子叶植物具有直根系；如双子叶植物棉、蒲公英、大豆、番茄、桃等。单子叶植物的主根不发达，其根系为须根系。
