核心课程是一种课程设计。在此设计中，儿童的学习有一个中心，所有的学习活动都围绕着这个中心进行。美国学者布拉梅尔德称核心课程为轮形课程（wheel curriculum）。课程内容的组织方式如下图所示。核心课程是 1880 年左右开始兴起的学科综合化趋势发展的结果。在 1930—1955 年风行时，有三种类型：一是以学科为核心，即以分科、相关、融合或广域课程为核心；二是以活动为核心，作为联络各种教学内容的手段；三是以社会生活领域或社会问题为核心。
