在钳工、机械钻孔中，很多需要划线。为了避免划出的线被擦掉，要在划出线上以一定的距离打一个小孔（小眼）作标记，做标志的这个冲子，叫做样冲。因为这孔是用冲子（也叫洋冲）冲出的，所以把这个定位孔称作洋冲眼。但毕竟人工活，准确程度与操作者的技术有很大关系。打孔都用电子尺定位，直接用中心钻和钻头就可准确地把孔打在应打的位置上。作用是为避免把孔钻偏了，用“样冲子”在需要钻孔的位置打一个“窝”，俗称“打样冲眼”。
