板形是板、带材平直度的简称，一般是指浪形、瓢曲或旁弯的有无及其程度。常见的板形缺陷有“镰刀弯”，浪形和瓢曲“肋状皱”和“眼睛”属于特殊的浪瓢缺陷。本来并无浪瓢，但一经纵剪后即出现旁弯或者浪瓢，这便是潜在板形缺陷。板形控制的总目标是将上述两类缺陷都控制在允许范围之内。 通常意义上的板形还包括板、带材横向断面分布的均匀度，一般用板材中央与边部厚度之差的绝对值或相对值来表示，此差值越小，均匀度越好。实际轧出的板材断面有时呈鼓形、楔形、中凹形或其他不规则形状，这都是板形不良的表现。 板形不良会限制轧制速度的提高及轧机所能轧出的最薄规格，板形严重不良会导致勒辊、轧卡、断带、撕裂等事故的出现，甚至可能损坏轧机。
