机种，是指将重于空气的航空器（主要是飞机和直升机）按一定分类法分出的类别。最通用的是按用途分类。如把飞机分为：歼击机、轰炸机、客机、农业机等。有时，对机种的分类分得相当细，甚至把不同型号的飞机也看作是不同的类别，但是这时的“机种”与“机型”的词义相通，可以混用。
