幼虫蛀木虫是各种钻木甲虫的幼虫，它们常常把完好的竹、木组织破坏成细粉。常见的蛀木虫种类有粉蠹虫、粉茶柱虫、长蠹虫以及家天牛。其中家天牛是木材和具木质结构建筑物的重要害虫，是对干燥软木最具威胁的毁灭性害虫，在夏天尤其活跃，夏季要注意防潮。蛀木虫是一种较难处理的害虫。要预防其入侵就要由木材原料做起到木材加工成制成品等毎个工序都需加以注意，避免感染。经常保持环境清洁，将枯树及废木清走。在木材表面、密封细孔、裂缝等涂上油漆或光油、可以避免蛀木虫卵卵产下。
