木构梁架是中国古建筑发展的主流，梁架最主要的作用是承重。在中国北方地区的木结构建筑中，多做平直的梁，而南方的做法则将梁稍加弯曲，形如月亮，故称之为月梁。加之南方天气炎热，殿堂基本上都做“彻上明造”而不做天棚，这样一来月梁的形象暴露于外，当人们进入殿堂时，全部梁架构造一目了然。
