昴宿七的主星昴宿七A是一颗B型的蓝白色巨星，视星等为+3.62。它是一个分光双星系统，两颗恒星的视星等分别是+4.1和+5.6，旋转的周期为1250天。这个系统拥有一个伴星昴宿七B，视星等为+6.8等，距离主星0.4角秒（至少52天文单位）。
在左面穿透北极光依然闪亮的是著名的北方星座——北斗七星，在右面较远地方闪耀的是更紧凑的昴宿星团。
