在生产管理中，时间研究是指以时间为单位，把职工所进行的工作细分成若干单元，分别加以观测，记录其时间值，进行分析研究，建立标准工作时间的活动。时间研究又称秒表时间研究,是利用秒表或电子定时器,在一段时间内，对作业的执行情况作直接的连续观测，把工作时间以及与标准相比较的对执行情况的估计等数据，一起纪录下来给予一个评比值，并加上遵照组织机构所制定的政策允许的非工作时间作为宽放值，最後确定出该项作业的时间标准。
