斑点鲈学名称黑莓鲈（Pomoxisnigromacufatus），属日鲈科，莓鲈属。该鱼自然分布很广，东西跨越整个美国。该鱼体形侧扁，形似中国的武昌鱼，但体短一些。头小，头背部为橄榄色，棕色或灰绿色，向两侧腹部变深为银灰色，在头部和体侧有不规则的黑斑，体色鲜艳。商品鱼一般在体长17.8-25.4cm，体得375g，最大个体可达48.9cm，体重达1875g。
