电火花线切割加工简称“线切割”。它是采用电极丝（钼丝、钨钼丝等）作为工具电极，在脉冲电源的作用下，工具电极和加工工件之间形成火花放电，火花通道瞬间产生大量的热，使工件表面熔化甚至汽化。线切割机床通过XY托板和UV托板的运动，使电极丝沿着与预定的轨迹运动，从而达到加工工件的目的。
