放顶（放顶煤）：一种开采缓倾斜特厚煤层和急倾斜特厚煤层的一种采煤方法。放顶煤采煤法就是在厚煤层中，沿煤层或（或分段）底部布置一个采高2-3米的长壁工作面，用综合机械化采煤工艺回采，利用矿山压力的作用或辅以人工松动的方法使支架上方的顶煤破碎成散体后由支架后方（或上方）放出，并予以回收的一种采煤方法。放顶煤采煤法的实质就是利用地压落顶煤一次开采厚度在5m以上的一种双工作面采放结合的垂直集中采煤。
