在捻股机上将钢丝按技术要求围绕股芯中心线做规则的螺旋形排列捻制绳股的工艺过程，是钢丝绳生产的重要工序之一。股的结构不同，股中钢丝的直径、数量及排列方式不同，股芯外排列的钢丝层数也不同。股芯外一般可排列一层、两层、三层甚至更多层钢丝。股按其横截面形状可分为圆形股和异形股。股的捻制可采用管式捻股机，也可用筐篮式捻股机和无管式捻股机。
