拼柜可以分为直拼或转拼，直拼是指拼柜集装箱内的货物在同一个港口装卸，在货物到达目的港前不拆箱，即货物为同一卸货港。此类拼柜服务运期短，方便快捷，一般有实力的拼柜公司会提供只此类服务。转拼是指集装箱内不是同一目的港的货物，需要在中途拆箱卸货或转船。此类货物因目的港不一，待船时间长等因素，故运期较长，甚至运费偏高。
