“拍马屁”是指 讨好、奉承上司。另外蒙古是马上得天下的民族，所以元朝的官员大多是武将出身，下级对上司最好的赞美，就是夸他的马好。一方面是蒙古人对马钟爱有加，另一方面马也是他权力、身份、地位的象征，因此夸他的马就等于是夸他。
