扶强材(stiffener)亦称“防挠材”,是为保证金属板的刚性所加装的钢质船体结构材料。船内、舱壁、肋板等常用型钢作扶强材。所有横舱壁均为带垂直扶强材的平面舱壁,所有纵舱壁为带水平扶强材或垂直扶强材的平面舱壁。外壁板带垂直扶强材,内壁板为带垂直扶强材。扶强材的偏差可使用直尺检查,直尺垂直于扶强材,扶强材根部处内壳与直尺间的最大间隙建议为 4mm。
