So say Kendall Eskine at the City University of New York and colleagues, who asked 57 volunteers to rate how morally questionable a set of scenarios were on a scale of 1 to 100.
First they asked subjects to reflect on their overall satisfaction with their lives, and ranked their answers using a "life evaluation" score between 1 and 10.
Unclouded by politics (none of the candidates was recognised) the scorers showed a surprising amount of cross-cultural consensus—although the French were as usual notably harsh judges.
