史料记载，中国最早的茶馆起源于四川。据《成都通览》载，清末成都街 巷计516条，而茶馆即有454家，几乎每条街巷都有茶馆。1935年，成都《新新新闻》报载，成都共有茶馆599家，每天茶客达12万人之多，形成一支不折不扣的“十万大军”，而当时全市人口还不到60万。去掉不大可能进茶馆的妇女儿童，则茶客的比例便无疑是一个相当惊人的数字。即便在今天，成都的茶馆恐怕也仍是四川之最，中国之最，世界之最。
