急性肠炎是消化系统疾病中最常见的疾病。常与肠道感染包括肠道病毒（柯萨奇、埃可病毒）和其他病毒、细菌（如杆菌、沙门氏菌、金黄色葡萄球菌、霍乱、肠念球菌）、肠阿米巴、寄生虫等；还与饮食不当、摄入过量不新鲜食物引起食物中毒；化学品和药物中毒；食物过敏有关。临床表现为腹泻、腹痛、腹胀伴不同程度恶心呕吐，严重时可导致脱水，甚至休克。本病可发生在任何年龄，以夏秋季较多，公共卫生欠佳地区好发。病因明确及时诊治，一般可获痊愈。
