急性乳突炎是乳突气房粘-骨膜特别是骨质的急性化脓性炎症，是急性化脓性中耳炎主要表现在乳突部位的急性炎症。主要发生于气化型乳突，常见于儿童，亦称为急性化脓性中耳乳突炎。急性乳突炎如未被控制，炎症继续发展，可穿破乳突骨壁，引起颅内、外并发症。
