弄拉自然保护区总面积8481公顷。林区面积8481公顷，属于喀斯特岩溶石山地区，林区森林覆盖率达79.6%，是目前南宁市石灰岩石山植被和生态环境保存较为完整的地区。林区有着丰富的野生动植物资源。据广西林业勘测设计院组织考察队的初步统计，林区内生存着陆生脊椎动物215种，其中有国家一、二级保护野生动物22种，广西重点保护动物65种。有维管束植物708种，其中列入国家保护野生植物5种，还有列入《濒危野生动植物种国际贸易公约》附录物种的兰科植物，共24属38种。
