并联机床(又称虚拟轴机床)是由机械机构学原理引用过来的,机构学里将机构分为串联机构和并联机构,串联机构的典型代表是机器人,传统机床的布局实际上也是串联机构。理论上串联机构具有工作范围大,灵活性好等特点,但精度低,刚性差,作为机床,为提高精度和刚性,不得不将床身、导轨等制造得宽大厚实,由此导致了活动范围和灵活性能的下降。
