平原河流(plain river)是指流经冲积平原地区的河流。大中型河流的中下游均流经冲积平原。平原河流河谷宽广,分布着广阔的河漫滩,中水位时水流集中在主槽中流动并形成一系列泥沙堆积体(如边滩、心滩、江心洲、浅滩、沙嘴等),平面形态具有一定规律，有顺直型、弯曲型、分汊型、游荡型等几种。
弯曲分汊型河道在冲积平原河流中常见，其水沙运动规律较为复杂。
