市场垄断是证券交易市场上的一种不良交易行为。市场垄断者以数量庞大的资金集中于某种有价证券的买卖，以长期控制市场局势，使一般投资者上当，垄断者趁机渔利。常见的操纵手段有三种： ①市场垄断者利用大笔资金秘密买进某种股票的大部分，使交易筹码减少，同时设法使该股票行市上扬，造成利多气氛，哄抬价格，引诱一般投资散户跟进。待股票上涨到一定程度后，再集中抛出，从中牟利。②市场操纵者集中大量卖出某种股票，使该股票筹码激增，迫使股价下跌，造成散户恐慌心理。
