用于润滑正、斜、人字、锥齿轮和蜗轮蜗杆。分为以下各种：①闭式齿轮油。普通齿轮油用于轻负荷运转的齿轮润滑；极压齿轮油中含较多极压抗磨剂，用于中、重负荷或有冲击负荷的齿轮润滑，多用于冶金工业，一般均沿用美国齿轮厂商协会和美国钢铁公司的规格。②开式齿轮油。粘度高，粘附力强。用重质润滑油加沥青或聚合物粘附剂调制，为使用方便可加稀释剂。③蜗轮蜗杆油。用精制石油润滑油或合成油加适量脂肪或油性剂调成。
