岩性图（lithologic map）是表示各类岩石分布情况及其相互关系的专门图件。它是编绘地质图、构造—岩相—古地理图、成矿规律图的基础图件和进行成矿预测的必要资料。在一些情况下，例如，在火山岩地区为了研究喷发的中心和顺序；在变质岩地区为了划分变质带；为查明矿产的形成及赋存情况与岩性的关系，进一步了解矿区的岩层、构造等特征；为表示含水层的分布情况和反映某一地区的工程地质条件等，常需要编制岩性图。 岩性是指反映岩石特征的一些属性，如颜色、成分、结构、构造、胶结物、及胶结类型、特殊矿物等。
该系统的目的是在地质岩性填图方面为航空物探解释人员提供咨询。
