岩屑占碎屑总量的25%以上，长石<10%，石英<75%。以石英和岩屑为主，岩屑含量>25%的砂岩名称叫法很多，如岩屑砂岩、硬砂岩、杂砂岩、瓦克岩等。 岩屑砂岩主要是由石英、岩屑和长石构成，其中，岩屑含量占50%以上。常在山前冲积扇、山间盆地及河流相沉积中产出。主要分布于强烈隆起的山前凹陷区内。
