对重是电梯曳引系统的一个组成部分，其作用在于减少曳引电动机的功率和曳引轮、蜗轮上的力矩。 对重的结构没有固定的形式，但不论何种形式，在对重的四个角上都应设置四只导靴，以保证对重在电梯运行时沿着对重导轨垂直运行。 对重装置位于井道内，通过曳引绳经曳引轮与轿厢连接。在电梯运行过程中，对重装置通过对重导靴在对重导轨上滑行，起平衡作用。对重装置由对重架和对重铁块两部分组成。一般客梯采用1：1吊索法的对重装置。
