密教又作真言宗、瑜伽宗、金刚顶宗、毗卢遮那宗、开元宗、秘密乘。依真言陀罗尼之法门，修五相、三密等妙行，以期即身成佛之大乘宗派。我国十三宗之一，日本八宗之一。主要以金刚顶经为经藏，苏婆呼经为律藏，释摩诃衍论为论藏。统称密教之经典为密经。
