实验岩石学是在实验室控制的物理化学条件下研究矿物岩石体系相平衡和动力机理的学科。欧美习惯把矿物和岩石的高温高压实验研究统称实验岩石学,即广义的实验岩石学。前苏联等国则把着重矿物合成及相变方面的实验研究称作实验矿物学。中国常把这方面的研究叫作成岩成矿实验。实验岩石学是通用的术语。
