守口市位于大阪平原的中部，淀河的左岸。南边和西边与大阪市相邻，东边是与门真市，北边是与寝屋川市相接的平坦地带。守口市于1946年11月1日成立，由当时的守口町和三乡町合并而成，是日本第206，大阪府第11个市。 成立守口市时，市区大部分都还是田地，因与大都市大阪市相邻，而且交通便利，1957年再与庭洼町合并，形成了现有的市容，从那时起，人口急剧增加，城市化不断发展。
