《学习原理》(Theories of Learning，1949年、1975年)，1948年第一版，全书除前言外共有12章。1956年第二版，1966年第三版。1975年，希尔加德与G·H·鲍威尔共同修订，将内容增加到16章，成为第四版。1981年第五版。我国心理学老前辈章益先生曾根据第二版的《学习原理》辑译了其中三、四、五、六章和十四章的部分内容，即希尔加德有关新行为主义四家学说的评价及其在学习理论上的个人见解，这几部分在《学习原理》一书中占据着重要地位，被收入到山东教育出版社1983年出版的《新行为主义学习论》一书。中译本《学习论——学习活动的规律探索》，由华东师范大学邵瑞珍教授等根据该书英文版第五版译成，1987年9月由上海教育出版社出版。全书共三部分，十五章，996页，72.6万字。
